Guy Boyd (1923-1988)

Guy Boyd was born into the illustrious Australian Boyd family art dynasty. At age 12 he chose to become a sculptor. After the guilty verdict against Lindy in 1982, he was so concerned about the unanswered questions that he published a book, Justice in Jeopardy. In it the eyewitnesses gave their complete statements, as well as legal and forensic expert explaining why the verdict was not right, and the testing methods had been wrong.

Lindy wanted something to commemorate Azaria. Her favourite moments in Azaria’s short life were bath time. The water trickles from the sponge held in the baby’s hands.

Lindy holds high respect for Aboriginal peoples. With this piece she created for her own pleasure, she has used the caucasian features to convey her empathy and respect for the blending of white and aboriginal cultures in Australia’s heritage and her own experience.
Jacob Wrestling with the Angel

This is the maquette for the 14 foot wide installation in the library at the Canberra Campus of the Australian Catholic University. Representing the Old Testament story of Jacob wrestling determinedly through the night, Guy told Lindy that, ‘This sculpture represents our story.
